Higher Order Thinking Skills for Spiritual Abundance : Building Blocks of Knowledge
Published in Paperback by PublishAmerica, Inc. (June, 2002)
Author: Jeanette McKenzie
Average review score:

Revisit your former training!
Your momma may have read it, your papa may have read it, but, God bless the child that reads and studies the Bible themselves. "Higher Order Thinking Skills for Spiritual Abundance" inspires the reader to revisit their religious education from the very beginning, by using fundamental building blocks. These blocks are knowledge, comprehension, application, analysis, evaluation, and synthesis -- build on one another just like reading, writing and arithmetic. After you have mastered each subject, there are worksheets to reinforce and supplement your training, just like in the classroom. These skills are the foundation of a solid spiritual life, concepts we already know, but we got side tracked along life's highway. It's always good to have a gentle reminder. Jeanette McKenzie firmly but lovingly asks for our undivided attention. With King James and the New International versions of the Bible as her textbooks, she educates applying the Benjamin Bloom's six principles for cognitive brain development. I felt as if she pulled me outside of the classroom door, scolded me for not doing right, but reminded me I could start fresh when we returned inside. Using her 20+ years of teaching experience, Ms. McKenzie demonstrates the ability to motivate. I recommend "Higher Order Thinking Skills for Spiritual Abundance" for those seekiing to revisit their former Sunday school training.

MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW
I began reading Jeanette McKenzie's book with interest since I am quite knowledgeable in the subject she was writing about. Having been a Pastor for over 20 years, I was anxious to see how she would present this information. I wondered if it would be 'preachy' or given to the people in a tender, understanding way.

The author takes all of the Spiritual truths that are needed from the Word of God and presents them to the reader using Bloom's Taxonomy of cognitive brain development. Now, don't let that big name scare you away! The author really does a wonderful job of using these concepts in teaching the reader how to raise their spiritual level and get the most out of their spiritual walk. As Christians, we are always striving to have more understanding of God's Word and His principals.

Using the six levels of the taxonomy she applies them to knowing the Word of God, the Holy Spirit, prayer, fasting, faith and answered prayer, among others.
She does an excellent job in presenting her information. I feel someone wanting to truly grow in God's Word would benefit greatly from applying her format.

Higher Order Thinking Skills For Spiritual Abundance would make a good complimentary book to your Bible. And would be an excellent companion book for those wanting a deeper walk with the Lord.

Excellent Read
Higher Order Thinking Skills for Spiritual Abundance is an excellent book. The ideas expressed by the author are central to our lives as Christians.

Jeanette McKenzie presents a fresh and innovative approach to Christianity through an age old concept used by teachers all over the world. She systematically and thoroughly teaches how we as Christians can grow spiritually.

So, if you are at a "stand still" and then perhaps you may want to invest in this book. Certainly an excellent tool for believers everywhere.

Taash and the Jesters
Published in Hardcover by Henry Holt & Company (November, 1992)
Author: Ellen Kindt McKenzie
Average review score:

A Page Turner all the way to the end!
This book follows Taash, an orphan who is taken away from his abusive foster parent and given to a "witch and her friend." As the book goes on, he meets Kashka and Piff, two twin cousin jesters who don't see each other that much. THen, he sees some witches trying to curse a small baby. He instinctively grabs the baby away and saves the baby's life.

As it turns out, the baby is a prince. Taash and his new friends, one of which is PIff, set out to return the baby to his parents, the king and queen whom Kashka and Piff serve. The only catch is that there is a gang of dangerous witches who want the baby too. When they finally get to the palace, Taash learns who he is, just as the witches strike.

THis book is great and I'm not going to tell you how it ends. IT's a real surprise. THis book is the best...I would and do read it over and over agian. I recommend it for all fantasy readers. THey will really enjoy it.

Fun and fantasy for all ages
I first read this book as a child and was utterly captivated. The book is full of magic, humor and adventure; what more could a kid want? The characters were truly interesting and so it wasn't surprising that now, at least 25 years after I found the book, I learned that my friends' kids also enjoyed it.

Re-reading it as an adult, I still thought it a pretty good story although not sophisticated by any means. However is was full of good clean fun with the age-old good vs. evil story.

I heartily recommend this book to everyone that likes a good read, whatever their age.

Wonderful fantasy!
One of the best children's fantasies!! Evil witches, kidnapped prince, mysterious jester, boy who doesn't know his own past - it's all great!

California Real Estate License Examination Preparation

Great book!
I baught this book at first just so I can see how I would feel about getting into real estate. Let me tell you, I studied the book, took the C21 course (we went over the same material that was in the book but rushed through it in class)then took and finished my state exam in a little over a half hour (3-31/2 hour test if I remember correctly).

Believe me when I say, this book helped me a lot. I don't think I would have past the state exam with just taking the crash course.

I have been in real esate for a year now :). Thank you, Mr. Pivar

Great Material
I am about to take my exam and I am quite confident thanks to this exam book by William Pivar. I was not able to find the companion that can go with this book according to the Introduction. I think it would have made it even easier to learn.

Complete the questions in this book and you will pass
This book is a rigorous study book. And it is a lot less expensive than taking a cram course. It is the only thing I studied and I passed the first time!! Now I just wish there was a companion book for the Broker's exam!!!

The Viking World
Published in Paperback by Frances Lincoln Limited (August, 2001)
Authors: James Graham-Campbell and David McKenzie Wilson
Average review score:

Jam-packed with great information!
You can spend five minutes or five hours at a sitting with this gem. Even a casual browse through a few pages will teach you something you didn't know about Vikings. A must for anybody studying Norse culture, and a valuable addition to their collections.

Avert Your Eyes Europhobes.
-
A cultural atlas presents its readers with a tremendous amount of information. Even a casual browsing through this work reveals enough information to provide the seeker of knowledge with a firm grasp on the history, geography, and culture of the efficient, effective "Warriors of the North" known as Vikings or Northmen.

This atlas explains and defines the Viking Age, beginning in the 8th century and ending in the 11th century with the creation of the Scandinavian nations of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Iceland. These tall, blonde, blue-eyed Vikings also left their mark on lands from North America, across Europe into Russia -- which was named for the Rus, a Swedish tribe -- and into the Byzantine Empire of Asia Minor and beyond. The Vikings endowed the Europeans who followed them with the Viking genes for bravery, impudence, physical beauty, and intelligence, genes which Viking warriors spread widely in the Northern Hemisphere.

The compilers of this work, edited by James Graham-Campbell, present the reader with a plethora of charts, maps, and captioned photographs illustrating and enriching cogent expository text.

Everyone on the planet, ... will recognize this book as a valuable tool in the study of a great European people.

A great resource for the big picture
I love this book. It has lots of maps and illustrations. Best of all it covers the entire gamut of the Viking universe. It is a wonderful resource for getting your head around the big picture of the Viking age. I have researched Viking Age history for years now and this is one of the BEST books I have ever found

Black Lagoons
Published in Paperback by Latedo Press (January, 1998)
Author: J. McKenzie Knight
Average review score:

I read many books, and this is one of those rare gems
Black Lagoon reads like a modern day fairy tale. It took me to far-flung places around the world, shared a message and told its love story in a way that seemed so natural.

Couldn't put it down, stayed up all night to finish it.
A deeply moving story that has changed the way I think and feel about the world. Everyone should read this story as it has something for everyone.

I love books with exciting plots, full of suspense, with good characters. Black Lagoons definitely fits into this category - can't wait for this one to become a movie! Full of adventure, romance and drama the story's highlite takes place in the depth of the Amazon jungle where an ancient prophecy concerning the fate of our modern world is discovered by a young woman, Ashley. She and her Australian lover overcome many obstacles and challenges in unraveling the meaning of the prophecy. Similar to THE CELESTINE PROPHECY, the story also contains many insights into human existence.

Glasgow Girls: Women in Art and Design 1880-1920
Published in Hardcover by Red Ochre Pr (August, 1993)
Authors: Jude Burkhauser, Ray McKenzie, and Mary Armour
Average review score:

Glasgow women artists get their overdue recognition.
The book discusses the lives and struggles of the women artists at the Glasgow School of Art around the 1920s. The actual show of their work was exhibited at the Glasgow Art Museum and has been preserved in this book. It was a superb show and the book has captured the wonderful artwork of these unique artists for us to view. I cannot tell you how many times I have read it. My regret is that there are too few books like this. I thank the author for her time and effort to bring this gem to light.

Wonderful collection of writings and pictures
Thank you, Jude, for collecting these writings and illustrations of the works of the Glasgow Girls! I was introduced to Francis and Margaret MacDonald during the Charles Rennie MacKintosh exhibit at Chicago's Art Institute.

Since the Art Institute will not do an exhibit on these gals, I only have this book. Just wonderful. I wish there were even more illustrations. I love this stuff - more than the work of the Glasgow Guys.

The Jehovah's Witnesses
Published in Paperback by College Press Publishing Company, Inc. (13 December, 1999)
Author: Michael C. McKenzie
Average review score:

Very Helpful Resource
I found this book to be a very helpful resource in dealing with Jehovah's Witnesses. The tone is not defensive nor condescending, but Dr. McKenzie presents honest, forthright critique of the views of the Jehovah's Witnesses and challenges their views of the Bible. This would be a great book to give to a friend who might be a Jehovah's Witness to help them evaluate their membership in the group or to give to someone who is considering the movement. It is also useful for Christians who want to understand the movement more fully and be able to respond graciously as Dr. McKenzie has done in the book.

Great book for friends and family
I was looking for a book to give to some friends and relatives on Jehovah's Witnesses, and after shopping around a bit, chose this one. It seemed "user-friendly," with enough information on their beliefs to get them started. Two of my friends actually called me later to say "thanks" and that this book had helped them understand the Witnesses' basic beliefs. That was the first time anybody ever called me like that! I particularly liked the chapters on Jesus, and the one on the Witnesses and Society. The author made their beliefs easy to understand and explained why they are so anxious to spread their message. He obviously knows his stuff, but writes in a way that I can understand. After reading a lot of books on religion, I apprecaite that approach. In my family there are a lot of Christians who are eager to know more about their own faith, but don't know much more than just the basics. I would recommend this book wholeheartedly to anybody who wants a primer on the beliefs of Jehovah's Witnesses and how they compare to the standard beliefs of Christianity. Another thing I liked about it was that the author never put anybody's beliefs down--just stated the historical facts and pretty much let them speak for themselves. Frankly, I got a good bang for the buck with this book.

The Nude: A Study in Ideal Form (Bollingen Series, No 35, A.W. Mellon Lectures in the Fine Arts, Vol 2)
Published in Hardcover by Princeton Univ Pr (June, 1972)
Authors: Kenneth McKenzie Clark and Baron Clark
Average review score:

Throws light into the corners of a subject often misplaced.
Would you want to read someones recollections on art gone by, I doubt it. Perhaps you want to hear the love-less dissection of art by an academic, probably not. Maybe you'd like to see someone capture the beating heart in a subject that by it's very nature evokes stares, of course you do Malcolm. Lord Clark draws you into his diction, not because he wants you to bear witness to the eloquence of his analysis, but because he has remembered that there is more to seeing than meets the eye.

A well thought out discussion of the Western tradition
Whether you are a student of the arts, religion, history, or life you will learn from this work. Mr. Clark speaks with the authority of an educated and thoughtful expert on the subject and with the voice of a formidable author as well.

His work is as densely packed with meaning as you might expect to find in the writings of Reinhold Niehbur yet is possessed of a wonderfully literary mask. The writing is so well done, one might accidently read right over the meaning in the haste of seeing what will come next.

If you're the highlighting or underlining type, I'd recommend saving such marking for the second read as more of the true significance bubbles to the fore. Put aside your expectations of a "typical" art history text and prepare for an incredible enlightenment.

Enjoy!

Succubi: The Five Points
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (January, 2003)
Author: McKenzie Moss
Average review score:

Succubi: The Five Points is a touching journey
Succubi: The Five Points by McKenzie Moss is riveting reading.
It is a mystery, but it is also the story of a young mother and her family. Strange things happen, which border on the occult, but it only makes "Succubi" more interesting. It is a real page turner and a great story ... I recommend it without hesitation.

Succubi - a great read.
I read so many books seeking the ultimate - the can't-put-it-down-page-turner! Succubi, The Five Points delivers. I couldn't stop reading, nor can my friends who are reading it. Ms. Moss keeps you on the edge of your seat for a wild ride.
There are many facets to the book, some quite sexy, so don't let your kids read it (yet). There are some typos, but who cares - this book is so entertaining. You will lose yourself in it.

Troop 17: The Making of a Mountie
Published in Hardcover by Detselig Enterprises (December, 1992)
Author: James McKenzie
Average review score:

excellent
it gives the inside story what a person goes through to become a mountie

Great Book, it tells it as it was.
Hard to believe how the mounties were made would like to read more modern comparison with it. More people should learn how our Canadian Police force is made. The hardships that were apparent. I could see clearly how the men and women were strengthened throughout their training. The writers description of the Training Acdemy was so detailed that I could almost imagine being their myself. I now understand that if they could make it through that training then they are clearly ready for any situation that they will encounter on the job.
